Designers love to talk about process. As if there’s a process to do what we do. In this talk, Matt Conway (creative director at frog design) will make a case that designers should put as much design thinking into how we approach our work as we do for the work itself. There is no (great) cookie cutter process for the same reason as there is no (great) cookie cutter product. Talk begins at 6:30.
Girl Develop It: Intro to Git and Github – January 29 & February 5
Ever make changes that broke your code and forgot how it was working before? Want to work together with someone on a code project, but aren’t sure who has the latest version of a particular file? Version control can solve these and other problems! Git is a popular version control application that can track your code changes, as well as help you to be more methodical in your programming. Win-win! This session will introduce the basics of version control, how to use git to keep track of your changes to a project, and using GitHub (a hosting service) to collaborate with other developers.
Seattle.rb Monthly Meetup – January 6
Seattle.rb was the first Ruby and Rails user group in North America and has met regularly for over a decade. We convene every Tuesday night to contribute to open source, work on personal projects, and teach and learn from one another. All skill levels are welcome!
Beer&&Code – January 7 & 21
Beer&&Code is a coder’s meetup in Seattle. A typical Beer&&Coder likes to use any programming language for work or for fun, enjoy a tasty drink, meet other Beer&&Coders and be a part of a community, and be challenged and learn from others. Whether you are new developer, a veteran, a designer, or none of those, you can hang out at Beer&&Code.
